Reflection Blog Post

Well, there goes another semester in the books! It’s crazy how quick this one went by! I can honestly say COM 210 was my favorite class this year! I learned how to use so many valuable programs this year that I already have used outside of this class in creating things for other classes and even an internship I applied for.

My favorite projects this semester were the Logo Project and the Audio Story project. Both Adobe Illustration and Audition were programs I had not used before, so I had a lot of fun getting some practice in using them.

For the Logo Project I was pleasantly surprised by how well my logo came out. I was nervous to use this program. I thought it would be very challenging to come up with a unique and representative logo that fit with my topic. However, after doing research and experimenting with my ideas I came up with a really unique idea that I could potentially even see myself using if I ever started a real personal blog on my own time.

As for the Audio Story project I had so much fun interviewing two of my best friends and talking all about fashion. I was really impressed that through all the tools I learned how to use how professional sounding my ‘podcast’ sounded.

Already I have used some of the skills I learned in this class for an internship application project where I was to create a Press Release for a new product line of the company. The guidelines told us to get creative with it, so I decided I would use some of the photoshop and illustrator tools I learned from this class to create artwork in the corner of the press release.

In photoshop I created what looked like a polaroid image using the shape and text tool. I also took a photo of flower and used an effect in Photoshop to make it look like it was drawn instead of a real flower. This added detail really made just my simple press release stand out.

I am actually flying out to Philadelphia tomorrow to interview for a Public Relations and Affiliate position for the URBN company which encompasses Urban Outfitters, Free People, Anthropologie, etc. It has been a long time dream of mine to apply for an internship with this company and even post grad to eventually work for them. I am very excited for this opportunity.

I hope to have a career in Public Relations or Creative Marketing within the fashion realm. Already the skills I have learned in this class I have applied to making this goal a reality. Both of these career paths offer creative outlets that any of these skills from COM 210 will help me stand out and succeed within my future career.

Well I guess that’s a wrap! Thanks for a great semester, COM 210!

CHEERS!
